War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission Offered Star-Spangled Coins at 2012 Expo
In 2012, the State of Maryland kicked-off its three-year celebration of our nation’s victory over Great Britain in the War of 1812.
A series of events, beginning with Sailabration commemorated the State’s unique contributions to the defense of the nation and the birth of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” penned by Francis Scott Key and inspired by the dramatic events in and around Baltimore.
To honor the Bicentennial, the U.S. Mint struck gold and silver Proof and Uncirculated commemoratives. At the Expo, visitors were able to view these beautifully designed coins at a special exhibit on the Bourse Floor.
